Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen, said: “It was an honour to attend Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service’s annual awards and present an award.

“Our staff do a phenomenal job at keeping the public safe, and all staff have a role in this, which is why it’s so important to celebrate their passion and dedication to residents.

“I had the honour of awarding the Community Contribution Award to Kirkby Lonsdale Fire Station for their response to the major fire the town had in December 2024. They placed themselves at risk to ensure the fire was contained and their support to the community has been brilliant.

“I’ve visited Kirkby Lonsdale and the Station a few times since the fire and every time I am blown away by how the community, including the firefighters, has come together to support one another in the aftermath.

“The award was well and truly deserved.

“A big congratulations to all the award winners and those who were highly commended.

“Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is a brilliant organisation and it’s the hard work of the staff that make it so. I am immensely proud of what the Service has achieved over the last year and I hope you all are too.”
