The role of the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner is to hold the Chief Constable and the Chief Fire Officer to account for their respective services in Cumbria. The way in which the Commissioner does this is at a Public Accountability Conference whereby areas of performance are discussed, financial matters are monitored and decisions are made. The members of the Public Accountability Conference are the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, the OPFCC Chief Executive, OPFCC Chief Finance Officer and either the Chief Constable or the Chief Fire Officer.

The Commissioner already publishes information regarding Constabulary performance and decisions taken by the Commissioner.

In order for the Commissioner to be transparent in their way of working, the Public Accountability Conference meetings are held on a regular basis, and allows members of the press and public to attend. To assist those in attending the meetings a guidance notice has been prepared. Public meeting and general protocols have also been agreed by the Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner.

An agenda for each of the public meetings will be published 5 working days prior to the meeting date. Minutes and appropriate reports will be published following the meeting.

Meetings will be held at either Police HQ (morning) or Fire HQ (afternoon) in Penrith. Exact details of timings will be given on the agenda.
