Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen has welcomed today’s announcement by the Prime Minister which has set out a Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee for all forces in England and Wales.

Commenting on the announcement David Allen said: “I welcome the Government’s commitment to restoring neighbourhood policing and a guarantee of what people can expect from their neighbourhood policing teams. The pledge of an additional £100 million funding across forces in the country will go some way to increasing bobbies on the beat. I will be fighting to ensure Cumbria gets its fair share of that funding to get as many additional officers as possible.

“As your Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, and as a former Police Officer, I understand how important to you seeing named police officers in your local communities is, preventing and tackling anti-social behaviour, theft and shoplifting. This is the number one issue that residents bring up with me when I am out in communities. We are already seeing the excellent results from Cumbria Constabulary’s Operation Enhance with anti-social behaviour reducing by 30% in the city east area of Carlisle and this increase in funding will help further support and tackle anti-social behaviour across our county.

“Here in Cumbria, we have a strong starting point with the Constabulary currently having 59 Community Beat Officers (CBOs) and supporting Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) which are community led – meaning they focus on investigating incidents of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour that affect communities directly, as well as working to support victims. We will be launching a Cumbrian version of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee in early 2025 which will outline a firm commitment to neighbourhood policing.”
