Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (Commissioner), David Allen, is raising the voice of Cumbria nationally, leading on multiple national and regional profiles for policing.
The Commissioner has been appointed as Chairman on the Police Digital Services (PDS) Board and PDS Audit and Risk Committee. The Boards are responsible for coordinating, developing, delivering, and managing digital services and solutions that enable UK policing to safely use technology to improve public safety. Cumbria’s Chief Constable, Rob Carden, also sits on these Boards. Regionally, the Commissioner is the Director of Northwest Fire Control who jointly handles all 999 emergency calls and is responsible for mobilising Firefighters and Fire Engines to incidents in Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
Cumbria’s voice will also be heard in connection to Serious Organised Crime (SOC) as the Commissioner takes on the role of Vice Chair for the Serious Organised Crime and Specialist Capabilities Board for the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC). The Board leads the APCCs work to tackle serious organised crime, including the delivery of the SOC strategy and support for Regional Organised Crime Units (ROCU).
The Commissioner sits on the BlueLight Commercial Board to monitor and oversee the company’s operation, consider strategic issues and risk and ensure that BlueLight Commercial can achieve their aim of partnering with blue light organisations to influence the use of public resources, creating social value put back directly into front-line services.
Speaking on these appointments, Commissioner David Allen, said: “I’m honoured to represent Cumbria at a national level and ensuring that our county’s voice in heard across the country.
“Part of my role is to get the best resource for Cumbria – in order to achieve this, I want to help influence national decisions that not only have a positive effect on my county but also help Constabularies and Fire and Rescue Services across England and Wales.
“These Boards are all very different but very essential to building effective, efficient and trusted Police and Fire services in the UK so I am pleased to have the opportunity to have my voice, and therefore Cumbria’s voice, and to be heard.”
“I’ve dedicated my life to public service and ensuring public safety – both at a local and national level – so I believe that my past experience will be an asset to these Boards and I look forward to working with everyone involved.”
