Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (Commissioner), David Allen, is opening his Property Fund today (8 September).

Local organisations, charities and community groups can apply for up to £2,500 funding to support projects to help tackle crime or prevent anti-social behaviour (ASB).

In his first 12 months, the Commissioner awarded £128,678 in funding to 61 community groups, charities and organisations through the Community Fund – a similar initiative. Some of these organisations included Barrow Army Cadet, Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland, Maryport Amateur Boxing Club and Kirkby Stephen Youth Centre.

Talking about the Property Fund, Commissioner David Allen said: "Cumbria is one of the safest counties in the country but we still experience crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities.

“Just because its relatively safe here does not mean we should be complacent or do nothing. I firmly believe that the only way to keep our families safe is to keep pushing, to keep tackling issues as they arise and to start early, deflecting those who may become involved in ASB or crime away from involvement in it at an early age.

“Anti-social behaviour is the crime that is most likely to impact us and can take a terrible toll on individuals, particularly if people feel their community, or their home, is not safe. No one should feel unsafe on our streets or in their own homes, not here, not in Cumbria.

“This is why we are again inviting groups, organisations and charities to apply for up to £2,500 from the Property Fund, to run local initiatives and projects that have a specific focus on providing diversionary activities, preventing crime and ASB.

“Cumbrians have a strong sense of community and want to see their neighbourhoods thrive – the Property Fund is here to support that drive and help our communities become safer for everyone.

“More information can be found on my website under ‘Property Fund’.

“I’d encourage any group that fits the criteria to apply for funding. I’m eager to support initiatives that strengthens our county – the smallest project can make the biggest difference.”

I want to give this money away to make a difference, so please have a look and apply. Talk to your local Neighbourhood Policing Team and see what can be done. Do not think that you will not be considered, all applications are and the NPT staff will help you through the application process.

Property Fund documents such as the Guidance Form, Application Form, Process flow chart and FAQs can be found on the PFCC website.

Applications to the Property Fund will close on 17th of October at 5pm.
